Update Confederate Memorial Park August 2020

Good Morning,

Hope everyone is doing well.

CMP and The Point Lookout Confederate Cemetery are doing fine. We would like to thank everyone that has gone out of their way to do security checks when we’re not able to be down at Point Lookout.

We would like to Thank everyone for their continued support and we have been asked by several members for the address to send donations:

We’re sorry we haven’t been able to send you our newsletter, however you will be receiving them soon. We have many updates to CMP we’d love to share and our volunteers have helped us keep CMP beautiful.
We have installed security cameras with audio and we have had a tremendous amount of visitors to CMP this year.
We also just received word that the actual construction of the road widening is supposed to start early fall. We will be consulted when construction starts and when the actual work is being done within the survey of the original Confederate/smallpox cemetery.
We have also constructed the newly designated area for Memorial Bricks. We feel this area compliments CMP, keeps the park serene and it will provide an area so that we’ll be able to provide additional photos and information signage about Point Lookout Prison Camp.

The Annual Point Lookout Memorial Service by the local SCV and our Annual Descendants meeting is still planned for October 10th. We will update everyone with the itinerary when we receive the information.
